SW4

Postby mrfaze on Wed Feb 24, 2010 11:32 am

This year its a 2 day event! The Saturday Armin Van Buuren is headlining and the Sunday its Fatboy Slim, its £38 per day or £70 for the both i think.

Im going to head down on the Sunday to see Fatboy, was really good seeing him last year at V so i hope of a repeat performance and i missed SW4 last year, so i feel i should.

Anyone else?

aye rockness is good. not as comercial as places like titp, they have a beer swapping tent where if you take any cans of lager to the counter they will swap it for a cold carling/fosters i cant remember which brand sponsors it. i cant see any of the other big festivals doing that

btw... i used to be a fatboy fan... when i was a kid his CD on teh dancefloor at the boutique was brilliant.amazing big beat tunes, that were fun and had so much funk.... the DJ Batle he did with armand van helden on radio 1 got me into dj'ing.. however i saw fatboy recently and he just plays bollocks music... just cheesey vocal house or whatever is popular at the time...

Each to there own!

Not too sure if either of them are past it are they?? Van Burren No1 DJ 3/4 years running (yes its a popularity contest bla bla bla but still, very much current)

Fatboy, bit of a legend! And yes he does play the same vocal house stuff, but thats what he does now, and if you want to go see his show, then thats what you expect, he is not a trend setter any longer, he is Fatboy Slim.

A Festival in London, cant go wrong with that and SW4 is what it is, if you expect all bells and whistles then pay more and travel to go to the big festivals.

Its a harmless day out seeing top DJ's. Im sure all of us would love to be in the position there in someday, just enjoy it.

Why do you think Van Buuren is w@nk? If you dont like him, doesnt mean he is crap. I personally dont like Van Buuren, hence why im not going on Saturday, but he is quality and is one of the main drivers of the scene...

Re: Van Burren... back in the day he never seemed as technically good as van dyke or tiesto... plus he's playing trance which is wank... i don't think the scene has moved on since its 99/2000 pinnacle. its just the same stuff which invariably makes it a wank selling point for the festival.

i agree fatboy is a legend... however what he does now isn't what he's legendary for... he's legendary for big beat, that fun sound, mixed with humour and skill... now all he does is poorly mix commercial vocal house which a computer could do betetr... and he really does mix poorly these days, i saw him the other year, terrible stuff.... who would want to expect that and have the pleasure of paying through the nose for it? if you're going to live off your past glories at least do it with some panache. like the ageing rocker or the tarnished 80s peadophilic superstar on a comeback tour... its just embarrassing to watch and for that reason WANK.

if you want a festival in london try anything else but SW4 imo... Field day is far cheaper with a much more credible lineup.... same with lovebox.... i mean who puts richie hawtin on at 2 in the afternoon? how can you have danny tenaglia on for an hour and a half? who puts a sound system on so low that you can have louder conversations? SW4 just represents everything that's wrong with dance music... its like the global gathering of the south... soulless lineups with one aim to squeeze as much cash out of the punters... SW4 is a festival for mugs to be mugged... and for that reason it is WANK.

Agreed. I also agree with what you said about Fatboy back in the day. The beach boutique albums and stuff had at least a sprinkle of intelligence, and I saw him play 4/5 years ago and he was really good. But now, I can't think of anything fucking worse. Same with every big festival really.... what if you've been there, done that and want something a little different? Very few cater for this.

oohhh a good old debate!!!

RE Fatboy: A mate of mine went to see him just before xmas in Brighton and said he was brilliant. Tripple decks mixing and all that shizz.

And before anyone goes off on one, my mate is a credible DJ and does not praise peole if they are shit

SW4: yes it is a funny time to run a festival and end so early with Techno DJs on at 2pm. But for me, its 50 miles up the road, I have purchased my ticket already so come August its paid for and forgotten about, Then its my choice if i spend money on rip off beers, burgers etc. But at the end of the day it a great social thing for me to see people i would not otherwise and the weather is normally nice.

If I want to go home and get to sleep at a normal time I can, if I want to stay out all night I can. For me I can get the train, get smashed, Train home, Had a good time. No cars, No Busses, just a easy day out with friends and thats what these dance events need to be about..........

Yep exactly, hit the nail on the head!

Re Fatboy, thats why i want to see him on the Sunday, saw him at V last year and was amazing!

Re Van Buuren, yeah your right thats why i always preffered Tiesto and Van Dyk. And trance isnt "wank" just because you dont like it, its different, its changed, the trance scene has changed. Personally i wish it could be back to how it was, i was to young to club back in the pre naughty days, but thats the trance i like. And unfortunately it has moved on from the 99/2000 pinacle, its completely changed, to how it is today.

Im sure house music has changd alot in the last 20 years, but the scene i am in now is what i know, and i enjoy it.

I want to take what i like from a night, i dont care how it was, if someone is playing something that i enjoy, then thats good with me, its about the present and not the pass, just look forward to the future.

ahhh this topic was blocked at work due to the bad language, naughty boys!
