Track showcase for the new site

Postby James on Wed Jun 18, 2008 12:27 pm

Hi everyone,

one of the proposed sections for the new site is to showcase tracks created by forum users. The idea is that every month we'll showcase maybe up to 5 tracks, with a bit about each artist, how they created the track, and so on. Then viewers can listen to the track and also rate it and leave comments if they like.

Therefore, I'm inviting people to submit their tracks in this thread for inclusion. You don't have to create something new - a track that you've already posted here on the forum is fine, for example. I won't be judging the tracks, and if we get more than 5 a month I'll just pick them at random. The idea is simply to offer a cross-section of the sort of tracks that forum users are making, regardless of genre, experience, or ability, and to give everyone equal chance to have some exposure. So it doesn't matter if your track is your first effort, a rough demo, or the best thing ever created, so long as you're happy for others to hear it and get some exposure for yourself and feedback from other listeners.

If you want to take part, please post a reply in this thread and provide the following information.

-----------------------------------------------

* (Important!) A link so that I can download the track:

* Artist's name:

* The name of the track:

* About the track: (for example, maybe say what style it is, how long you worked on it, anything you're particularly pleased with about it or areas where you'd like feedback, etc).

* Gear used: A rough list of what gear (hardware, software, plug-ins etc) that you used to make the track.

* About yourself: (for example, maybe say how long you've been producing, the kind of genres you like to work in, influences, etc.)

* A Link to your website and/or other contact details (optional)

* A photo or image to be included next to your track. Not mandatory, but it would be cool if there was some kind of image for each entry - it'll make the page look cooler, and when I'm collecting the month's entries those with an image will likely get preference over those that don't. It doesn't need to be a photo of yourself if you don't want to; you can just use an image that you think represents your track in some way (nothing pornographic or dodgy, please...!). If you can make your image between 200 and 800 pixels wide, and then I'll resize it for the site myself.

-----------------------------------------------

Other stuff I should mention: One entry in this thread per person per month. And clearing samples or whatever else you're using is entirely your responsibility. The site's bandwidth allowance is likely to be a concern, so please don't encode your track any higher than 192kbps.

Feel free to also post your information in another thread as well if you like, so that if your track isn't selected people can still listen to it and comment just as they would normally on the forum.

cheers,

James

http://rapidshare.com/files/108235441/UA_-_Contrast__Mastered_by_Funk_Republic__160kbps.mp3

* Artist's name: UA

* The name of the track: Contrast

* About the track: Style - Progressive House – this is my first production and it took me a long time probably 4-5 months although most of that was learning how the software worked and I had little spare time over the 5 months. I had little experience of production only having done a few re-edits before this and had an idea of mastering but didn’t have the software or knowledge . Although I was quite happy with the structure and elements of the track it sounds so much after being mastered by Funk Republic.

* Gear used: M Audio Oxygen 8 V2 Controller, FLstudio7, Sony Acid Music Studio, Sytrus VST, Analogue Warfare 3, String Theory, Trafik loopmasters EFX, (unknown drumpack)

* About yourself: New to production, probably more likely to produce Progressive House/Tech but would like to produce other genres in the future

* A Link to your website and/or other contact details (optional)

* Artist's name: AI

* The name of the track: Whatever You Do

* About the track: Style - Vocal Electro

* Gear used: FL 8 with various VSTs, Sonar to key the vocal

* About yourself: AI are production partners Aaron Hull and Ian Tasker. We've only been producing with each other for a couple of months and this is one of few recently finished tracks. Aaron is pretty much a hardhouse/hardstyle nut but I managed to persuade him to turn his attentions to 'decent' music and bang out some tracks.

Cool Plan! :thumbsup:

* Download Link: http://soundcloud.com/seabass7 - Have not used this much so not sure how well dowloading songs works yet. There is a button to click that allows you to download the tune at the top left of the waveform. If it don't work well gimmie a shout and will sling it up on MediaFire or summat.

* Artist's name: Rich Gilfedder

* The name of the track: Trace Sample

* About the track: Acid House for the warm up. I would say at 125bpm and a ploddy acid line gives the tune a back room, warm up vibe (Not one for Tiesto!) - Finished in about a week but really that was just a couple of decent length sessions. Am pleased with the track but would like some feedback as am still learning (i'm sure I willl never stop!).

* Gear used: Main DAW - Ableton Live 6
Drums - Mostly Reasons Redrum Re-wired into live. Some samples for filler.
Acid - d16 Phoscyon
Pads - Absynth 4
Various samples and Ableton Live effects
M-Audio Oxygen 8 and M-Audio Trigger Finger

* About yourself: Been DJ'ing since I was 18, producing about 3 years although been really getting into writing tunes a lot more over the last year. As far as dance music goes I would say my style is deep house through to techno. Really I consider myself a record collector first though and enjoy a wide variety of music and would like to reflect this in my productions at some point in the future.
